A full-spectrum Calabrian citrus bergamot ingredient combining 38% standardized flavanones with pectin and vitamin C, backed by dedicated human research in healthy weight and metabolic wellness.
BPF® 38 was developed for formulas where ingredient identity and scientific credibility matter. Its characterized flavanone profile and research history give product developers the tools to create a more differentiated product around an ingredient consumers can understand and formulators can confidently support.
A 120-day human study evaluated 38%-standardized BPF at 650 mg twice daily, examining much more than a conventional lipid panel. Researchers measured fasting glucose and major lipid markers alongside lipoprotein particle size and concentration, liver-related measures and inflammatory biomarkers, providing a broader view of the ingredient’s cardiometabolic research.
In the 120-day study, participants received 38% BPF at 650 mg twice daily. Significant changes were reported across fasting glucose and the lipid profile, including total cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C and triglycerides.
Researchers used NMR spectroscopy to examine lipoprotein particle concentration and size after 120 days. The data showed a shift in the particle profile, including fewer IDL and small LDL particles and increases in large LDL, total HDL and large HDL particles.
Why it matters: Particle-level data extends the evidence beyond standard LDL-C and HDL-C measurements.
The same 120-day protocol also measured liver-related and inflammatory biomarkers. Significant changes were reported in ALT, AST, γ-GT, hepatorenal index, hs-CRP and TNF-α, providing a broader view of the metabolic response beyond glucose and circulating lipids.
Study note: The published 120-day protocol administered 650 mg of 38%-standardized BPF twice daily. Each 650 mg BPF preparation also included 100 mg oleuropein 20% and 50 mg ascorbic acid; findings should therefore be interpreted in the context of the complete studied formulation and protocol.

The research behind BPF® 38 reflects how closely connected many of the body’s metabolic systems are, giving formulators room to build a more complete wellness story around a single ingredient.
BPF® 38 is built around botanical identity, defined standardization, analytical characterization, and traceability. The five-flavanone profile provides a more meaningful way to characterize authentic bergamot than relying on total polyphenols alone.
BPF® 38 is positioned as a premium bergamot ingredient for healthy cholesterol and broader metabolic health formulations, particularly where a deeper clinical story is part of the product strategy.
Healthy lipid metabolism remains the strongest lead territory, while research into glucose, lipoprotein particle characteristics and liver-related metabolic markers gives the ingredient room to extend into more sophisticated heart, metabolic and healthy-aging concepts. Its concentrated profile is especially relevant to science-led products intended to communicate more than a basic cholesterol-support message.
BPF® 38 is a concentrated Bergamot Polyphenolic Fraction derived from authentic Citrus bergamia Risso. It provides 38% combined principal flavanones and approximately 70% total polyphenols, together with the characteristic five-flavanone BPF® profile.
They are separate analytical measurements. The 38% value specifically measures the five principal standardized bergamot flavanones, while approximately 70% total polyphenols represents the broader phenolic fraction of the ingredient.
Yes. A published 120-day human study specifically identifies the BPF preparation as standardized at 38% and evaluated lipid, glucose, lipoprotein-particle, liver-related and inflammatory measures. Other BPF® research should still be attributed according to the exact preparation described in each publication.
Dosage should be selected around the intended health application and the specific clinical evidence being referenced. Across the broader BPF® program, studies have used different preparations and daily amounts; the direct 38% protocol used 650 mg twice daily for 120 days.
